Ben Lomond Alpine Resort sits inside Ben Lomond National Park. It’s the only ski resort in the state, the area has a small, relaxed village feel and is known for being less crowded and more laid-back than the big mainland ski fields.
In winter, the mountain turns into a snowy playground where people go skiing, snowboarding, and tobogganing, or just to enjoy the snow. There are runs for beginners through to more experienced skiers, and it’s a popular place for families. Getting there is part of the experience too, especially the drive up Jacob’s Ladder, a steep, winding road with amazing views. In winter you’ll need snow chains and should be prepared for tricky conditions.
When the snow melts, the area becomes a great place for outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, and exploring the unique rocky landscape. You might also spot local wildlife like wombats and wallabies. The resort itself has basic facilities like ski lifts, gear hire, and a café, but accommodation is limited, so many visitors stay in Launceston and make a day trip out of it.
