Located in the heart of Launceston, established in 1820, the park is just a short walk from the CBD and offers a beautiful mix of landscaped gardens, historic features, and family-friendly attractions.
A highlight is the John Hart Conservatory, along with the playground, peaceful duck pond and the famous “Monkey Island” Japanese macaque enclosure, a long-loved attraction in Launceston.
For something a bit different, try the giant outdoor chess set, explore the seasonal gardens, or make use of the barbecue facilities for a relaxed outdoor meal. The City Park Train is also a popular attraction, operating daily except Mondays and public holidays, offering fun rides for just a small fee.
Surrounding the park you’ll find key heritage sites including the Tasmanian Design Centre, Albert Hall, and the historic Park Caretaker’s Cottage, home to one of Australia’s oldest wisteria vines. City Park also hosts major local events such as the Festivale food and wine festival and live music throughout the summer months.
Arguably one of Launceston’s best-loved parks, City Park offers a perfect blend of relaxation, history, and family fun right in the centre of the city.
